The Battle of Cardoman Part 3

The battle for Cardoman 3, Chapter 23 APOH is up. And alas, Never so Few is still down. I really thought that we would have that web site up again by now but then I also thought chapter 20 would go up this weekend. Life conspires to confound out plans.

When I map out a draft chapter I aim for 4500 words. It gives me time to tell a fair piece of the story and with a smoothing pass and final edit makes a good week or ten days work for someone not a full time writer. With this book closing in on the end I was at my normal word limit on Saturday but still had more story to get into the current chapter. I skimped on the details and forced it to fit in at just under 5000 words. When the final version comes out the first three chapters of the Cardoman fight will likely get expanded into four chapters.

The next section will take us off Cardoman (I have it started) and then we finally make it to the end on the ground again. I am trying to finish in two more chapters plus an epilogue and it is going to be hard with as much as is still left to finish. I will try to talk to the Old One tonight and Chapter 20 really is almost done—Really!”

Power Failure at Never so Few

The Old Dog suffered a power failure this morning and it took out the server for the Never So Few website and along with it went that particular email address. He is going to replace the old server with a different machine and is waiting on some parts. We hope to see the site up again in a couple of days. The backups are good and he can still address the server drive it just won’t connect to the net.

That said Chapter 20 of APOH is done but for the final scene and like I said last time should be up this weekend.

Falling Behind

Looks like I am going to be late with chapter 20. The Old Dog got busy and I went hunting. Started writing again today. I have 23 working so that may go up before 20. Depends on what Oldiwan is up to. I still have hopes for finishing this by the end of the year but my hopes are slipping.

I also fixed some broken links to the map of Cardoman Space. How they got broke we will never know. Read any of the books already posted and look for something new in a few.

The Battle of Cardoman Part 2

Is now posted. A Point or Honor Chapter 22. With luck and time the missing chapter 20 will be posted by the end of the month. The Old Dog and I have it about a third of the way but for me with hunting season at hand I am taking most of the next week off from writing.

Faster and Faster

I have APOH 22 ready but for the final smoothing pass and edit. I will send it off to the Dog for a look-see but it will likely go up Saturday. Oldiwan sent me an e-mail update of 20 to work on today. Twenty is the last of the Triocat section. But somehow he omitted attaching the part of the chapter with the words and stuff. I should get it tonight and start my first section tomorrow. Depending on various factors it could go up before 22. Four chapters this month no matter how things shake out.

Out of Sync Again

It shouldn’t be long this time. Chapter 21 of APOH just went up. That chapter is the start of the Battle for Cardoman. The Old Dog is working on chapter 20 which will finish up the Battle on Triocat. Looking for that in a couple of weeks.

In the mean time I have chapter 22 well on its way so there ought to be another chapter posted in a week or ten days. I still have my fingers crossed for finishing by the end of the year.

The Battle on Triocat 3 – APOH Chapter 19

The Draft of APOH Chapter 19 is now posted. The Old One wrote almost all of the this one. He is working on Triocat 4 which will be chapter 20 and next. I have the chapter after that one finished which we talk about internally as Cardoman 1 and also have a start on Chapter 22.

We are hoping to get three more chapters up this month (20 – 22) and finish the book by late December or early January. Look for another chapter in two weeks.

Good things a Commin’

The Old Dog has near half of Chapter 19 complete. I think we can finish off that one and be done with it in five or six more days. We call that next chapter 19 or Triocat 3.

Triocat 4,chapter 20, will be next and 2 more weeks is the goal. I am writing ahead and have chapter 21 close to two thirds finished. So a week after 20 and we can put 21 on line. I am also ahead on the concluding chapters so we just might get this thing done by the end of the year.

Time for APOH 18

The new Chapter 18 is up. Next we will visit Triocat again and see how the Ryman forces are doing. That one is the Old Dog’s, he will be the lead author and I will take care of details and adding things to bolster it out and fit into the Cardoman Universe as seamlessly as possible.

If things go as we would like it should arrive in about two weeks. In the interim I am posting more often at Never So Few and lately am posting fall pictures taken around Castle Calvert. Take a look when you are finished here.

Staying in Touch

Chapter 18 of A Point of Honor is half way done so it does look like I will get it on line by the end of October. For people like me that like to do word counts that will give it 85,000 words with seven chapters to go.

The entire Cardoman Saga is now over 430,000 words and that seems like a lot. But the Colony Alchibah book as a single volume went close to 460,000. And that was part of the problem with keeping it going.

My ultimate goal with APOH is to finish the draft very early next year and by that I mean January. Doable but I will have to stay steady.
