I Have Started a New One

A few years ago I mentioned a book in the works. I think I even posted the first page. Now I am writing it. The first chapter is posted at the new FutureVerse Site. It is not a Cardoman Universe novel but is a FutureVerse book, and I will mirror the first part here on Saturday. The title of the new one is Star Siding Road.

I have the first chapter posted but almost half the book complete. I should finish it in a couple of months, give or take. If you wish to see it early go here. If not each chapter will end up on this site about a week after I post it on the new one.

You may expect updates every now and again. That is all.

And About the New Alchibah Colony Website

It is up and functioning. This address leads to Alchibah Colony.com. I have used a retro-look on the site, one similar to the original but with bells and whistles, and a string of additional features added.

It even has indented paragraphs! I have already posted some never before seen video from out first landing—so go and take a look.

Spilling the Second Bean

WordPress.com has been a wonderful place for me to write the novels and stories I’ve posted here over the last four years. When I began I had little idea the original story line would grow as it did. And the intricacies of blogging can be daunting as well. But WordPress made it all seem easy. I owe a lot to this platform and recommend it to anyone and everyone, and without reservation. I will continue to use this site but it is time I moved on to something a little different.

My writing partner from Colony Alchibah, the one who wrote the Andrew Webb parts among others, the Old Dog, with the spur of the FutureVerse egging him on, set up his own domain hosting service and over there I manage the look and feel of the blog sites. In other words I edit the theme code so it looks a little different from the same template used at other places. Sometimes I even code in what I consider major changes and improvements. And I do a lot of posting on the Old Dog Barks site as well.

Now WordPress.com, this site, costs me nothing. I think the developers must be making it up on the volume. There are very reasonably priced options for upgrading the site. Things like adding video capability and eliminating the advertising. They also offer custom domains and increased support for additional cost. A great place to do business. But…

It is time for me to move on. And so — I registered a new domain where I will continue the Cardoman Saga. My new home is still the FutureVerse but this time it is the FutureVerse.net. And I have it at Oldiewan’s server farm. He has more than one server. I took the updated version of the theme I use here, something again that is an extra cost option at WP.com, and with very few changes imported my data. I had a lot of linking to do but a couple of weeks work and it is ready.

I will put a link to the new place in the sidebar but go on over to the new FutureVerse.net and take a look. There is all the content from this site plus a few comments about setting the new place up. Those I will remove in a week or so. I hope you like it as much as I do.

As I see it this particular piece of the internet property will become a mirror and backup for my new domain. And as much as possible I will duplicate the content here. That being said I have a five year lease on the place and it looks like soon I will need to start writing another Cardoman Novel to keep it busy.

Spilling One of the Beans

The Old Dog and I had been talking about what might have happened on Colony Alchibah after the end of the Blog Novel that got us started. I talked to Jeff Soyer of Alphecca fame, the originator of Alchibah, a few years ago about continuing but at that time the Dog and I were busy on the Never So Few book and I had another Cardoman novel in progress. So the opportunity kind of slipped away.

A few weeks back the Old One sent Jeff an e-mail wondering again about a restart. Jeff said he was surprised we hadn’t done anything about it sooner and to “Have at it!”

Well — We got a domain registered and the site is up and running on the Old Dog’s server farm. Still more work to do—getting a theme set and various odds and ends worked out, but Colony Alchibah will start anew.

This time around it will be more novel like and some of the old plot lines will be ditched. Many of the characters will continue but there will be room for more. We may even do what Jeff did when he started the original: Ask for volunteers to help with the writing. Time will tell on that front.

So that was my first bean. I will have another bean and an Alchibah update next week some time. The only hint I will give is that I have had to redo over 500 links in the last couple of days with another few hundred to go.

Stick around. This could get interesting.

What Does Come Next and When?

Still working on it but I expect the big announcement to come in a couple of more days. If nothing by Wednesday I will spill the beans early.

Marjoram Complete

The final chapter of Marjoram is posted. I have some minor edits left to finish but no rush. Some time next week I will add a few comments concerning what happens next.

Happy to be done with this book and happier still to move on. Keep checking in, I have a few short stories in the works and should have at least one of them finished and on line real soon now!

And in Conclusion

The last chapter of Marjoram is finished but for a final pass. I may give this one an extra day and post it on Sunday. Could go up tomorrow but If not Sunday for sure.

And Then There Was One

Marjoram 25 is up so that leaves just one more chapter to write and the book is finished. I intend on taking tomorrow off and going back to work on Monday. One more week should do it.

Penultimate

A burst today and chapter 25 is close to finished. A little work tomorrow and it will go up Saturday. It is The War in Space.
